Creating a Positive Climate for Learning
Welcome to the learning climate section of PE Central where we share information about creating, maintaining, and fostering a positive learning climate in the physical education setting. Creating an atmosphere to foster learning is one of the most important tasks of teaching. This requires teachers to employ many different strategies to motivate students, to increase students opportunities to learn, to help students learn and maintain appropriate behavior, to promote student self-responsibility, and to foster accountability. We hope that this section will serve as a opportunity for professionals to share a wide range of strategies, ideas, and solutions that they have found to be effective in developing a positive class climate. This section is broad in its scope and will address many issues ranging from enhancing self-esteem to managing student behavior to organizing the learning environment. We must keep in mind the importance of context -- that is, what will work in one situation may not work exactly the same way in another. If you have information that you think would benefit this section please don't hesitate to contact us. Click here to submit a class management lesson idea.
